Current Openings

1. Local Division Chair

Our local division is focused on promotion and awareness of volunteerism in our local communities. We have led 25+ volunteer events and activities in the past throughout the Chicago-land and New York Tri- State areas. This position will work alongside our Community Service Ambassador and other Board Members in helping organize volunteer events in the community. You can also work with local organizations in planning events. In the past we have held: Garden for Good (gardening with the elderly in a nursing home), Thanksgiving at Hamdard (Thanksgiving lunch with the elderly at Hamdard Center), and Bone Marrow Drives, to name a few.

2. Event & Volunteer Management

This area is similar to the Local Division and will work hand-in-hand with them in event organization and volunteer management. Thaakat Foundation aims to have at least one major fundraising event during the year, though more than one can be possible, depending on time. In the past we have held: Ramadan Benefits, Charity Basketball Tournaments, Comedy Shows, and Poetry Slams, among others. We have also held events with several universities who hosted performers (Josh, Raghav).

3. Sponsorship Management

Sponsors play a major part in helping Thaakat organize events, fundraisers, and charitable projects. Because of their donations, we are allowed to do the things we do and help make a difference! We are looking for someone who can manage our donor and sponsorship files and keep track of contributions. This person will contact donors and sponsors for future opportunities via email, letters, meet-ups, etc. They will also be responsible for thanking donors and sponsors for their contributions after events and fundraisers via thank you notes.

4. Public Relations Chair

This area will help grow the Thaakat brand by looking for opportunities where Thaakat can be in the public sphere. This can include: information booths, conventions, community gatherings, campus events through university organizations, celebrity shout-outs, corporate events, online media, etc. Possibilities are endless!

5. Editor, Urdu Times Thaakat

Thaakat members publish weekly articles in the Urdu Times English Corner. We are fortunate enough to have a full page donated to us by the Urdu Times and try to submit 2-4 articles weekly. We are looking for an Editor who can proof-read these 1-page long articles. An Editor will also commit to writing articles themselves once a month, recruiting other writers, and ensuring we meet our writing deadlines.

6. Contributor, Thaakat Blog

You can write and become a contributor on our official blog: thaakat.wordpress.com. If there are issues or an area of interest that you’d like to write about, this would be a great platform. A Contributor can also write about events Thaakat has hosted and/or the activities we have been a part of.

7. An Idea of Your Own
